As of December 15, 2022, The Notable Women of Boston mural by Ellen Lanyon is in a new location: The Massachusetts State House. The mural will now reside on the third floor adjacent to the Gallery of the House Chambers.
The mural, created in 1980 by artist Ellen Lanyon (1926-2013) to commemorate the centennial of the Workingman’s Cooperative Bank, honors women who made great contributions to Boston and the nation. The mural has been at Simmons College from 2015 until its current installation at the State House. It had been on view at the Boston Public Library (BPL) from 2003-2013. Michelle Jenney has been instrumental in getting the mural hung at the BPL and at Simmons, and at its current home at the State House.
