Across the country, musicians are readying performances of music by the great composer Amy Beach, in celebration of her 150th birthday (September 5). A New York Times article discusses her remarkable career, and notes that the lingering effects of sexism still keeps her work from getting the attention it should.
Beach lived at 28 Commonwealth Ave. from the time of her marriage to Dr. H.H.A. Beach in 1887 to 1911, a year after the death for both her mother and Dr. Beach. Her home is featured in our Back Back East Walk.
